Ok, so the project continues.  I almost had it randomly booting from the stock dvd, but it didn't finish. Locked up at the very end.  I'm trying one last method of reburning this bastard.  If that doesn't work, I surrender.

I'm hoping this works.  If not, I'm just going to trash the whole damn partition, and live with VirtualBox.  I'm so frustrated by all of this 🙁

I sat down this afternoon with the simple project of reloading Windows onto my MacBook Pro.  As you may recall, my hard drive died, and I had to replace it.  The Mac side is all setup and working nicely, just need to shoe-horn Windows back in there.

Not as simple as one would think, naturally.  Ages ago, I found a method to get 64bit Windows on my MacBook. Usually, one can only run 32 bit.  It takes some finagling to get 64 bit on.  So complex as to involve modifying the install media, which has a large label on it that says MAC ONLY. According to my instructions, booting a PC from it will break the PC.

But I digress.  My current problem is the DVD has become too scratched for my laptop to boot from.  Naturally, I didn't save the original ISO it was create from. Of course. I'm currently trying to recover the scratched DVD, so I can burn a new copy.  If this doesn't work, I'll have to see if I can find the instructions again (which I'm sure I didn't keep a copy of), and start all over.

I'm beginning to wonder if its even worth DOING.  I hardly ever use Windows, its just nice to have in an emergency (which DO arise).  Maybe I should just try out Parallels or Fusion or one of the other emulator-ish methods…..

  • Laptop woes

My laptop is having an identity crisis. Something happened with the Mac partition, but no idea what it was. She refuses to boot. Its also refusing to let me format the drive for some unknown reason. Keeps telling me it can’t unmount the Windows partition, which makes even less sense.

I’m at a loss. I guess the drive is dead. Luckily, I have plan B. J picked up a new HD at work 🙂

Gonna put the new drive in and start loading systems back on. I might take the old drive into work and test it, but I’m pretty sure its dead. Or dying.

    Sigh. That is all.

  • I’ve got a bad feeling about this

In my boredom, I was perusing the Apple Store online.  I like to dream once in awhile, and price up a shiny new MacBook Pro.  Well, I did the usual, and it came out to about $2,700 for the MacBook Pro fo my dreams.  Then I noticed the shiny buttons on the side that said 18 month financing available.  No interest if paid off in 18 months.  That comes out to about $150 a month.  That is like totally affordable…. Once I pay off my car loan in May.  This is too tempting lol.
