  • What a Day

    Today’s Highlights:

    • Snowmageddon happened
    • Buddy banned from bathroom
    • I hate my snowblower

The Snowmageddon happened today.  We got somewhere around 2 feet of snow.  Which then blew and drifted into 4 foot snowbanks across most of my lawn and the entire driveway.  I got to stay home and work from here today.  Isn’t remote access grand?  Buddy sat on the desk with me most of the morning watching the snow fall outside the window while I worked.

At one point he wandered off for a bit and came back.  As he jumped up onto his perch on my desk, I noticed some suspicious bits of paper stuck to his tail.  Upon looking closer, it was toilet paper.  I had an issue with him a few days ago where he’d got ahold of a nearly empty toilet paper roll and dragged it all over the house.

I immediately grabbed him by his scruff and escorted him to the scene of the crime, er bathroom, where I discovered an entire roll of toilet paper had been disemboweled in the bathtub.  We had a nice talk, and now the bathroom door is being kept shut.

Then came the physical activity for the day.  Clearing the driveway.  I wish I had taken some pictures, but it was blowing so hard outside nothing would of come out anyways.  Walking from the porch to the truck required wading through snow up to my waist.  The drift alongside the truck was as high as the hood of the truck.  But then I noticed the worst part.  The snowbank created by the plows all day on the street was so high you could barely see traffic going by over it.

So I started snowblowing.  My snowblower was a trooper until I tried turning towards the street. Then it kept stalling.  And stalling.  Until one fateful pull, the pullcord ripped in half.  No more snowblower.  It took Mike and I forever to get it cleared out with shovels just enough that the truck will fit out to the street so I can go to work in the morning.

It was quite the day.  And we’re getting like another foot on Wednesday.  Winter in Maine is finally here.

  • Cat Update

I’ve missed having a cat!  I’ve settled on naming him Buddy.  He is extremely playful, and has taken to following me from to room, if just to curl up and sleep.  He loves people food, and has some serious issues with personal space when you are trying to eat.  He’s tried to steal an entire piece of pizza off my plate, and today I had to share a bowl of Beefaroni with him.

  • Homebuying Progress

I’ve made quite the progress in homebuying lately.  My closing date is this Friday, final walkthrough is Thursday.  And I start moving in this weekend.  Internet is even being installed on Sunday!

Now I need to go through the mountain of crap that is my stuff in the garage… Its going to be quite the adventure to sort and move all my stuff.  I haven’t even seen most of it in about a year since it moved in there.

If anyone is looking to help me move, I can use any help available this weekend, just get in touch with me!

  • Weekend Report

Its been awhile since I’ve updated, so here’s a bunch of quick updates.

    SSL Certificates
Sethen.com is now fully running on https!  DreamHost now offers FREE SSL certificates for its hosted sites, and I used Sethen.com as my guinea-pig site.  So far it seems to be working great!  My next project is to convert TRC, and then go on down the line.  Search engines already rank pages differently on whether they are mobile-friendly, and now they’re starting to do the same on whether you are secure or not. It was only a matter of time. I’m hoping to roll it out on all WayFar websites in the near future.

    Milo Historical Society Website Overhaul
The overhaul is essentially finished, I just need to run it by the members of the society and get some feedback.  Its looking really great!!

    Diablo III
I’ve been sucked back into Diablo III.  I’m actually enjoying playing it much more this time around than the last few times I tried to play. The newest patch did a lot of nice things.  My barbarian is already getting sooo powerful.

    Server Overhaul
I bit the bullet and ordered a shiny new 5TB hard drive last week.  I’m overhauling my Minecraft Server to also run my Plex Server and store pretty much all my files.  Making it into a TRUE server.  It just feels like a waste sitting here running Minecraft when nobody is really playing anymore…

Thats pretty much it for now. I need to get some sleep.

  • New Years in the Woods

I went up to Jackman this year for New Years, continuing a semi-regular tradition.  On the ride up, I saw 6 moose, which got me my “moose quota” for 2015.  I even saw a two-fer, where they nearly tripped over each other trying to get up a hillside away from the road.

It was good to see Craig and company.  I hadn’t been up since this summer when I had the rental truck.  Was pretty nice to go adventuring out on the back woods roads again in MY truck.

Only down-side to the adventure was pretty much as soon as I got there, my body gave into the head-cold thats been going around work for the last week or so.  I’m all stuffed up now and feeling pretty borderline miserable.  I sure hope I feel better in the morning for work 🙁

Also, once again, I didn’t take a single damn picture all weekend. I need to stop doing that.

  • Weekend Report

I had a great weekend.  I went down to my Uncle Jon and Aunt Debbie’s in Poland Springs and pitched a tent on their lawn. My parents brought their shiny camper.  They live right on Lower Range Pond, and its beautiful there.  On Saturday, we all traveled down to Kittery for the annual Fitch Family Reunion.  Got to see all the distant relatives, and gorge myself on amazing food.  Spent Saturday evening lounging by the pond.

I drove home today, and took the scenic route.  A) I didn’t want to pay the ridiculous $1.75 toll on the Turnpike again, and B) I had nothing better to do than go for a drive.  I was very brave, and drove through Lewiston.  A large portion of it.  Holy crap, does it go on forever!  I took Route 126 out through the depths of Lewiston, and followed it to the end somehwere in Lincoln County.  Then I drove a ways and hit a route that comes near Belfast.  Along the way, I surprised myself and randomly drove by a store Craig and I stopped at in South Monmouth a few times many years ago.  I also got to see a good bit of Maine that I’d never really been through.

Then when I got home, the button finally came off my shorts. It had been loose for some time 🙁  But Mom, you’ll be proud of me.  I successfully used the re-discovered sewing kit and sewed it back on!  I give it a few days before I need to do a better job haha.

Still a good weekend though 🙂
