The first step towards insanity

by on Oct.31, 2011, under Ramblings, TRC, WayFar

Halloween 2011 (Mike got me a pirate bandana in Bermuda!)

Insanity is a fun place.  I like to vacation there from time to time.  It has recently come to my attention, that I have been away for too long. A month or two back, I started some discussions with my good friend Jeremy/Remy/JJ/Jage/Whatever about a massive update / overhaul to the TRC Website.  Since then, I’ve been too dang busy to really put any thought into it.

<dramatic pause>

Until now. (this is where the insanity comes in)

I started thinking about this project again today.  Its something that really needs to be done, quite honestly. TRC was designed over 10 years ago, and since then its only had some minor updates, additions nailed onto the side, and a few new coats of paint.  We once attempted to rebuild it from the ground up. Well, we DID, but it didn’t look any different.  We kept the same look, just cleaned up all the code, which was still outdated.  Now, the site is horribly old, clunky, and outdated.  It needs more than just a facelift.

So, we’re going to do some stuff.  There is a lot in the works. I can’t even figure out how much quite yet, but its staggering.  Right now, I have one major dilemma staring me down.  Separate domains or sub-domains.  Right now, we got several domains.  trcmaine.org, milohistorical.org, threeriversnews.net, and milo.lib.me.us.  We’re already looking at one new domain.  www.threerivers.me  Isn’t it shiny?  My dilemma is whether to keep all the separate domains, or just move them to say news.threerivers.me, milolibrary.threerivers.me, so on and so forth.

Opinions?  Please?

And yes, its a completely unrelated photo.

Menu Madness

by on Aug.27, 2011, under TRC, WayFar

Awhile back I came up with the brilliant idea of making an overall menu for TRC and TRN and the associated sites.  It was to be similar to the menu on the Bangor Daily News, and similar to the admin menu on my wordpress here (only I can see it, don’t try to look for it).

Well, upon investigating into how to make such a menu by de-coding the BDN site, I discovered that they’re just as evil as me.  That menu on the BDN? (if you haven’t seen it, go look).  Its decoded from the same WordPress menu here on my site.  They did just like I was doing, backwards engineering it from another source!!  I’m shocked.  But also frustrated.  I started out trying to use the WordPress one, but its far too complex and built in from the ground up into WordPress.  Either that, or I’m just too lazy to figure out how to make it work properly.  And trying to backwards engineer it from the BDN is just as complex, as theirs is built from the same madness.

Back to the drawing board.  Or might just scrap the whole project.

WayFar Overhaul

by on Apr.16, 2011, under WayFar

I overhauled www.wayfar.me last night. WayFar Enterprises has been downgraded to WayFar Design. I’m just going to focus on the web design aspect now that I have a full time job. Much simpler, less stress. Check it out! I also made a page for WayFar Design on Facebook. Look it up and like it!!

WayFar Debate

by on Mar.08, 2011, under WayFar

I’m debating dropping the Wayfar.me website.  Even before I got the job, I decided to put WayFar on the back burner, as I just can’t compete for web design prices.  I wanted to make it more of a hobby.  Now that I’ve got an amazing full-time job, I don’t really have time to promote it or do much other than keep it as a hobby.

Should I bother keeping the website for it?  Or just make it part of Sethen.com…  Its easy to keep the website, but do I honestly need it?  The information is barely ever going to change.  It might just be easier to go back to my name.

I dunno.  Suggestions?  Comments?

Mass Overhaul

by on Feb.17, 2011, under WayFar

Did a semi-massive overhaul on the WayFar Enterprises website tonight.  Made quite a few prices more competitive, and expanded the details on some of the services offered.  Check it out if you want to see!
