This is where I’ll review movies, books, music, and other media.
Game of Thrones
by Sethen on Apr.03, 2012, under Media, Ramblings
Thanks to Rick at work, I have become totally addicted to Game of Thrones. I’ve watched the first six episodes since I got home tonight. I’ve actually done pretty much nothing else. I know, I lead a dull life. But I love this show!!!
Anyone still use AIM, Yahoo, or MSN??
by Sethen on Jan.19, 2012, under Media, Ramblings
Does anyone out there still use AIM, Yahoo Messenger, or MSN? I still log into them all the time, but I hardly ever talk to anyone on them anymore. Everyone seems to use Facebook chat now, with an odd handful using Google Talk. I’m debating scrapping AIM Yahoo and MSN.
Unless someone out there reads this, and responds! Do you still use one of them? If so, SPEAK UP!!!
Social Media Ponderings
by Sethen on Dec.28, 2011, under Media
I’ve been doing alot of pondering on social media sites lately. I have accounts on Facebook, Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn, and more that I can’t even remember. I used to have a MySpace, but I deleted it. Now I’m contemplating making a new one. I don’t even know why. What IS the point in having all these different things?
Its like with Google+. I really like alot of the features it has, but hardly anyone I know is using it. It seems like a waste of effort. Thats kinda why I left MySpace. I got sick of all the weird crap there that I never used, and all the weird friends I had lol. I use Facebook the most, as all my friends are on it. Eons ago, I used LiveJournal for the same reason, but I don’t think anyone uses it anymore. My account is still there, just haven’t used it in, well, eons.
I guess I’m just looking for opinions. What does everyone out there reading this use? Which sites should I bother with?
I also came across a nifty program called HootSuite, which lets you manage all the different social media sites in one place. I kinda like it so far, but its limited to 5 accounts. One can upgrade to unlimited by paying $6 a month, but I’m not sure its truly worth it, as well as if its worth even having all these things to begin with.
Give me your opinions! Please!?
What TV shows am I watching?
by Sethen on Dec.08, 2011, under Media
Out of a spat of pure boredom while sitting in front of my television, I’ve decided to write about the TV shows I’m watching currently.
2 Broke Girls
I love this show! Its new this fall, and its so hilarious. The two actresses on it have me in stitches all the time
Two and a Half Men
Yeah, I’m still watching this. I had to see what they did after killing of Charlie, and its not all that horrible. They’ve turned Allen into such a running gag, it makes me laugh.
The Big Bang Theory
I’m a geek/nerd, I knowingly admit this. Its why I watch this show
And for the record, I want the LEGO Death Star Sheldon was building in one episode.
Last Man Standing
I checked this out simply cuz I like Tim Allen. Its not too bad! Imagine “Home Improvement”, but with three daughters instead of sons. Its kinda like that. But not quite. Still, its entertaining. Check it out if you like Tim Allen.
The Walking Dead
WHY IS THE SEASON HALF OVER?! I love this show! It just keeps getting better and better. WATCH IT!!
The Middle
This show reminds of my childhood sometimes. Its more like a REAL family in a sitcom, kinda like Roseanne was back in the day. Yes, that made me sound old.
Modern Family
This show ALWAYS makes me laugh. Just the odd combinations of families that it portrays is great
And I’m glad Ed O’Neill is back on TV.
Google Plus
by Sethen on Oct.29, 2011, under Media, Ramblings
I finally got on Google+ ! As of Friday, they opened it up to Google Apps users (finally). I rejoiced. Then I signed up. Its pretty darn dull. I have found very few people on it, and the few I did find are hardly using it. I wanted to try out the Hangout feature, the thing with the multiple webcams, and nobody else was on.
So far, its turning out to be a disappointment.
Media Center of DOOM!
by Sethen on Oct.19, 2011, under Media
One $5 Apple Remote, and an install of a program called Plex, and I have a media center of doom! Its one app, does everything. Downloaded television, downloaded movies, music, picasawebpictures, iphoto, itunes, hulu, netflix, all the major networks, and more I haven’t even figured out yet! Its intense. I can watch TV, movies, all kinds of stuff now. Its like having cable, but free!
Quote from Doctor Who
by Sethen on Oct.05, 2011, under Media, Ramblings
On the Fields of Trenzalore, on the Fall of the Eleventh, when no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a question will be asked. A question that must never ever be answered.
Media Madness
by Sethen on Sep.19, 2011, under Media, Ramblings
Pure madness. I have a laptop setup running my tv now (sans screen), and I’m loving it. It plays my videos off my iMac over my gigabit network, and it plays my Netflix. I’ve been playing around with some different programs, trying to find some kinda media center program to handle all my media needs
Well, I found a few different options.
Boxee
Boxee is a simple program, works as soon as you install it. I was actually enjoying it, until I tried searching Netflix for a show. Specifically, Rocko’s Modern Life, as I’ve been watching it the last few days. Well, it didn’t show up. Not even remotely. I went online and added it to my Instant Queue, which is right in the Boxee program. Zilch. Still no Rocko. I went researching online, and apparently its a problem with Boxee not liking to show anything on Netflix that has more than one episode, i.e. any tv show. So phooey with Boxee.
Plex
Plex is pretty sexy. Fancy hi-def interface and whatnot. Supposedly it does Netflix as well, but I got nowhere. The App Store part of the program refused to load for me… And on top of that, it was severely irritating to use! Its designed to use exclusively with the Apple Remote
I don’t have one. And it does NOT work with a mouse. Only input I have on the machine is a wireless mouse, so that was pretty useless. I don’t wanna use an entire keyboard. I guess I could buy a remote, but meh. Anyone got one laying around they aren’t using? haha.
I’ve given up for now. Back to using a browser for Netflix, VLC for my video playback, and iTunes for music.
If anyone out there has some suggestions for other programs to try out, I’d love to have them!
